The City of Oroville Fire Department Weed Abatement Program helps maintain safety and enforce fire prevention measures within Oroville and newly annexed areas.

Each year, approximately 9,000 properties are inspected. Property owners must keep their land clear of weeds, rubbish, refuse, and dirt. Owners can handle this themselves or hire a private contractor. If a property does not meet the required standards, City Enforcement may step in, and the cleanup will be completed by a City Contractor at the owner’s expense.

Oroville is one of 13 cities in California that allows the sale and discharge of safe and sane fireworks, making weed abatement a key part of fire prevention efforts. This program has been highly effective in reducing the number of dangerous fires caused by fireworks.

Weed abatement is an ongoing responsibility. Most properties will need attention an average of three times per year to stay compliant. While required year-round, it is especially critical during high fire months, usually April through October.
