Zoning Ordinance (Title 17 of the Oroville Municipal Code)

Division Overview

The Planning Division is responsible for two primary components: Current and Long-Range Planning.

Current Planning:

The Current Planning Division helps with everyday land use and development activities. Staff members give advice to the Planning Commission and City Council about different types of projects, like building something new, changing how land is used, or dividing land into smaller parts. They review things like conditional use permits, variances, subdivisions, and design plans.

They also check building permits and other requests to make sure they follow the city’s zoning rules. Some of the projects they look at include second homes on a property, large family daycares, home businesses, temporary events, and early plans for new developments.

Every day, the Planning Division gets lots of questions from the public. To help people, they have a public counter that is open daily and provide help by phone, mail, and email.

Long Range Planning:

Long Range Planning is concerned with the preparation, updating and amending of General Plan Elements, Specific Plans, and the Zoning Ordinance.

Residential and Non-Residential Development

Looking to develop your property or open a new business? The first step in a project is to find the zoning for your property. Zoning regulates what can be on your property, which uses are allowed, and the development standards to which projects must be built.
