Teen Docent Project (TDP)

The Teen Docent Project strengthens museum support while providing mentoring and skill-building opportunities for teens.

  • Increase docent support within city museums.

  • Offer mentoring and hands-on learning experiences for teens.

πŸ› Program Overview

The Oroville Docent Association, City of Oroville, and Parks Commission collaborate to recruit 10–20 youth docents. This program:

  • Supports museum operations during weekend hours.

  • Enhances docent safety & security.

  • Encourages community engagement.

  • Provides enrichment activities for teens.

  • Builds leadership and teamwork skills.

  • Gives students a letter of recommendation from their lead docent and a certificate of recognition for college, scholarships, and job applications.

⚑ Requirements

  • Commit to 8 hours per month in a city museum for one school semester.

  • Be in 9th–12th grade and maintain a 2.5+ GPA during the program.

  • Must complete docent training and orientation, including a review of the docent safety manual.

  • A minimum of one museum staff or docent will always be on shift when a teen is present.
